I am an American woman from New York City who has been living in Denmark since 2018. I married a Dane who persuaded me across the Atlantic. For more than two decades, I have played a leading role in communications in the nonprofit sector.
I was born at the intersection of colliding worlds. Africa. Asia. America. Europe. All of these run through my veins and soul in a dizzying clash of history and DNA. Perhaps my complicated origins are the reason I have made it my life’s work to find language and build a craft to bring people closer together, transcending the formidable barriers in our way.
I call myself a storyteller because that feels like the theme of everything I do. More than twenty years ago, I more or less stumbled into non-profit communications. I didn’t know at the time this was a profession. I just wanted to tell the stories that help people see the value and potential in each other.
I have played a strategic communications role in transforming some of the most significant issues of our generation. My experience includes spearheading national and international narrative change initiatives that helped transform the public conversation and policies around human rights, drugs and drug use, criminal justice, LGBTQ rights, social and economic equity, and racism. My work has influenced pop culture and entertainment and drawn the attention of major media outlets.
I am a writer, music fan, and a hopeful idealist who tries to keep my cynicism confined to a few snarky jokes here and there. I have a reputation for being practical, reliable, creative, analytical, strategic, collaborative, resourceful, honest, and down to earth.
I have a love for culture, travel, and languages. There might not be a more challenging communications exercise in listening, humility, and bravery than learning a new language. My mother tongue is English. I also do my best to operate in Danish, French, and Spanish. Someday, I dream of finally learning Tamil, and refreshing the Shona I learned in college.
